Creating a Rule of Life Workshop
Gather for Holy Eucharist at 12 noon in the great choir, then proceed to Cathedral Library.
Throughout the sacred spaces and grounds of the cathedral, participants will reflect upon their lives and how they might bring these transformational foundations and rhythms into their own daily living. Periods of interactive instruction, exploration of the foundations of Saint Benedict’s Rule, silent and conversational reflection, and mutual encouragement will shape our learning. Bring a journal if you have one and your favorite writing materials!
About A Rule of Life
Benedictine spiritual life springs from wisdom foundations of stability, obedience and transformation and is embodied through the practical rhythms of prayer, study, recreation, work, and hospitality. While monks embrace these foundations as vows and these rhythms as their daily practice, the Community of Reconciliation sets an intention to engage them as guides for daily living centered in the Holy.
In a marvelous way, each person’s Rule of Life encourages vital integration of spiritual awareness and practical engagement and connects them in a vibrant constellation of intention— a monastery beyond walls.
These Saturday sessions provide extended opportunity for reflecting upon and creating a rule of life. Through interactive instruction, exploration of the foundations of Saint Benedict’s Rule, silent and conversational reflection, and mutual encouragement participants reflect upon their lives and how they might bring these foundations and rhythms into their own daily living.
Participants gather for Noon Eucharist in the Cathedral and experience hospitality with a shared brown bag lunch in the gardens and grounds of the Cathedral. Plan to bring a light lunch to share or purchase one at the Cathedral Store. The afternoon is filled with learning, facilitated conversation, reflection, and application as we begin the process of creating a life rule. These sessions are also helpful for those who wish to review and refresh their existing life rule.
These events are complemented by monthly Creating a Rule of Life sessions held on First Monday of the month evenings throughout the year, following Benedictine Life and Prayer gatherings.
