Sacred Poetry: An Evening with Scott Cairns
Poetry has given voice to the heart of divine truth since the beginning of time. Whether a vision of despair or a proclamation of joy, the language of poetry invites us to share the agony and the ecstasy of the human experience. Scott Cairns says I want my students to find in poetry a means of consoling their losses, a way of witnessing grace, and an access to living, even now, in what we still might call the Kingdom of God. Scott Cairns is a professor of English at the University of Missouri and author of five collections of poetry including his latest, Philokalia: New and Selected Poems. Local poet Kathleen Henderson Staudt also read from her new work.
