Sacred Poetry: An Evening with Scott Cairns

Event image

Poetry has given voice to the heart of divine truth since the beginning of time. Whether a vision of despair or a proclamation of joy, the language of poetry invites us to share the agony and the ecstasy of the human experience. Scott Cairns says “I want my students to find in poetry a means of consoling their losses, a way of witnessing grace, and an access to living, even now, in what we still might call the Kingdom of God.” Scott Cairns is a professor of English at the University of Missouri and author of five collections of poetry including his latest, Philokalia: New and Selected Poems. Local poet Kathleen Henderson Staudt also read from her new work.
