At a memorial service for Senator Daniel Inouye (D-HI), the Right Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde, bishop of Washington, officiated, and retired Rear Admiral Barry C. Black, the Senate chaplain, delivered the sermon. They will join with other officials in honoring Senator Inouye, including tributes offered by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and the Hon. Eric Shinseki, Secretary of Veterans Affairs, as well as President William Jefferson Clinton and Vice President Joseph Biden. The President of the United States, Barack Obama, gave the tribute. House Speaker John Boehner will also attend to honor the life of the most senior U.S. senator, who had been serving in Congress since Hawaii became a state in 1959.
