Shrove Tuesday Pancake Races
Cathedral clergy and staff will race across the west front, flipping pancakes as they run in this annual event. The race builds on a tradition dating to fifteenth-century England. Christians cooked pancakes, donuts, or other similar foods as a way to consume eggs and fat before the beginning of Lent on the following day (Ash Wednesday).
Following the noon Eucharist, approximately 12:30 pm

Prizes will be awarded in each event. Rules are that all runners must flip their pancake THREE times, the first flip to be made immediately after the the starting signal, the second flip during in the middle of the race, and the third flip after the contestant has crossed the finish line, to show that the pancake is still in the skillet.
