Congregation Ministries Fair and Potluck Picnic

Fall Picnic

We broke bread together, laughed together and explored …

God was truly present on Sunday afternoon, September 27 when the Cathedral Congregation came together in community for our fall picnic. The morning rain was ominous but the time around the tables learning about opportunities to serve was spectacular! It was obviously a blessed time since the afternoon rain held out until folks were on their way home.

More than 220 of us gathered in community—we broke bread together, laughed together and explored how God can use us in the ministries we sponsor at the Cathedral. From the loaves and fishes at each table to the sharing of our our favorite entrees, salads and desserts, the bounty was obvious. Generous compliments and requests for recipes were heard all around. (Who knew fish came in all those colors?!)

There were over 30 ministries present and we had the opportunity to explore how God might be calling us to service. It was great to actually have time to talk with people about how to polish silver, the activities for the 20’s and 30 or perhaps learn about the upcoming Homeless Walk on November 21. Whether your interest was in serving within the Cathedral, our congregation or within our larger urban or world community, there were opportunities available to explore how we could be of service. The enthusiasm that the folks working with the ministries have was contagious and others signed up to share the joy and God’s love.

Feedback has been very positive and included comments like:

“All in all I absolutely LOVED the Ministry Fair and picnic! I love talking with people who are passionate about their ministries.”

“We have a very talented cadre of cooks in our midst! I vote for more potlucks!”

Special thanks go to Jim Norris, Jeff Stitz, Kim Gilliam, Kathleen Keenan, Sarah Rockwood, Mark Huffman, and Nancy Stockbridge for organizing such a fun event. Thanks to all the great cooks and generous potluckers for sharing your bread and fishes with all of us.

If anyone wants to follow up with any of the ministries, the information is on the website. The enthusiastic folks who support the ministries will be very happy to be in touch!
