Explore the religious imagination in a series of four evenings with Benedictine and Celtic scholar Esther de Waal.
In this third of four evenings, hear Esther de Waal speak on “Living Landscape: The Mystery of the Borderlands.” Although the four evenings are designed as a series, participants are welcome to attend individual talks.
Esther de Waal likes to describe herself as a gardener and a grandmother but she is also a writer, lecturer, and retreat-giver. Her main interest has been in the monastic tradition—Benedictine, Celtic, Cistercian—and its relevance for today’s world.
Her book Seeking God, The Way of St. Benedict, was written 25 years ago this Lent, and her latest, Seeking Life, will be published during her time here this winter at the College.
She has always lived in the Welsh Borders and now plans to return to her earlier training as a historian of landscape and architecture, together with a recent fascination with the poetry of locality. Her talks this year will reflect this merging of interests.
