Centennial Address: The Spirituality of Reconciliation

Event image

Through prophetic vision and a courage empowered by a mighty faith, Archbishop Desmond Tutu guided a broken nation to justice and peace—abolishing apartheid from the land of South Africa. He has been called an international icon of justice, a mediator for true democracy and the moral voice in ending poverty and human rights abuses.

To witness Desmond Tutu is to witness the muscle of faith alive and powerfully at work in the world. His message is guided by the wisdom of the gospel and his deep abiding love for all humanity. Through the lens of faith he understands forgiveness as the instrument of peace.

The Community of Reconciliation, a new ecumenical spiritual community based at Washington National Cathedral, was honored to receive the Archbishop’s blessing during the evening’s program.

Those who attended were witness to his alternate and prophetic vision of radical equality, acceptance and the ultimate grace of forgiveness.
