Jews & Christians: A New Conversation (Part 2/2)

The evening provided an innovative perspective on the Hebrew Bible with the Rt. Rev. Krister Stendahl and Tikva Frymer-Kensky. Christians and Jews are both “people of the Book” whose encounters with this shared biblical text impact their actions and beliefs. Recognizing commonalities and shared vocabulary and acknowledging differences can spark new insights into scripture study. Tikva Frymer-Kensky, professor at the University of Chicago Divinity School, approaches the Bible as a living organism traveling through time that inspires our thoughts and lives. Krister Stendahl, bishop emeritus of Stockholm, Sweden, has taught for more than thirty years at Harvard Divinity School. He contrasts the Hebrew Bible as both the Old Testament for Christians and the complete Bible for Jews. Stendahl considers each faith as God’s essential laboratory for enriching human understanding.
