Toward Commitment

Nationally known public radio broadcaster Diane Rehm and her husband, John, a retired attorney, opened up to discuss their marriage of forty-two years, revealing the strong and passionate bond between them as well as the conflicts and insecurities that can overtake a relationship. In an attempt to dispel what they call the “destructive ignorance” about romantic relationships, the Rehms honestly confronted the points of discord and the hard work needed to maintain a successful marriage “in the belief that an honest account of a marriage of more than forty years may encourage other marriages and comparable relationships not only to endure but to flourish.”
