Prison Ministry

Event image

As we explore ways to spend time with God, He provides opportunities in so many ways. When asked, Jesus let us know one way "For I was in prison and you came to visit me." (Matthew 25:36)

This is the heart of our prison ministry at the Washington National Cathedral. We find ways to 'visit' those in prison. It might be through the simple act of writing letters, praying for those incarcerated, sending stamps to them or even helping create a Christian community within the prison. These simple ways of showing love can have a tremendous impact on those in prison and offer hope instead of loneliness. We also work with other organizations to help find mentors for those who have been released and need the support of someone who can help newly released prisoners find their way.

Many of you are probably thinking, “I could nevergo into a prison!” You can ‘visit’ without going near a prison. Our ministry can use your help in other ways, please stop by to talk with Nancy Stockbridge on Sunday to explore ways you can participate in this ministry. For more information about prison ministry through the Cathedral visit the program table near the coffee hospitality area after the 8:45 and 11:15 Sunday services or contact Nancy Stockbridge
