Lifting the Veil on Addiction

Event image

From his personal experience, first made public in father Bill Moyers’s PBS series Close to Home, William Cope Moyers carries the message of his spiritual recovery from drug addiction. In the halls of Congress and churches alike, he advocates for the changes in public policy needed to heal the chronic, pervasive disease of addiction at a time when the “war on drugs” is still the reigning method.

Millions of us struggle either personally with addiction or through the lives of people we love. Addicts have jobs and families, pay taxes, help the needy, and volunteer at church. The suffering stems not only from the disease but the stigma attached to it. Moyers is at the forefront of a movement of people in recovery asking publicly for the disease to be recognized and healed—medically and socially.

People gathered to hear a true story openly told of the power of addiction, and the promise and possibility for recovery that can transform individuals and our society.
