Fellows Program

Fellows Program

Each year, the Cathedral College of Preachers provides the opportunity for up to six visiting scholars to come for a Sabbath time of learning and rest. The program is designed for clergy or laity who wish to work on a preaching project in an atmosphere conducive to serious study.

These visiting scholars have included pastors, specialized ministers, authors, artists, and lay leaders. While in residence they have

  • an academic relationship with an advisor
  • privileges at all Washington Theological Consortium libraries
  • privileges to attend any conferences and all worship services at the College—it is desired that the Fellows embrace as much of the College experience as they are able during their visit
  • privileges at the local fitness centers

Around mid-point in their time, they present their research findings to the College staff and any specially invited guests. Soon after the conclusion of their stay, a final copy of the project is presented to our library.

The nature of the program precludes family members from accompanying the Fellow, unless a special exception is granted.

Requirements for Advisor

After acceptance in the Fellows Program, each Fellow must seek and find an academic advisor in the DC area who will offer support and direction for the project. The Director of Program is available to aid the Fellow in locating a suitable project advisor. The College provides guidelines in an Advisory Form that the Fellow and Advisory sign. The visiting scholar should know to turn to his/her advisor if there are any questions, concerns, or problems with the project itself, not for any other issues.

Financial Considerations

All housing expenses are covered, along with reasonable round-trip travel expenses. Travel while here and some meals are the responsibility of each Fellow. Parking is available, but limited, on the Cathedral Close. There are nominal fees at the fitness centers.

Remuneration, if any, to the advisor is negotiated and then paid by the Fellow.

Requirements for Applying

Applicants must have attended at least one prior conference at the College. Each person accepted must sign the College’s Covenant of Ethics.

Parking at the Cathedral

Parking in the Cathedral’s underground garage is free Sundays, 6 am–11 pm. Learn more about parking options for individuals and groups.
