Readers Program

Readers Program

The Cathedral College of Preachers Readers Programs offers opportunities for sabbaticals or other self-directed study or retreat times for clergy and laity throughout the year. Readers come to the College for one or more weeks to work on specific projects, liturgical preparation, or for times of general study, rest, and retreat.

Readers are housed in single accommodations and have use of the College facilities, which include the library, study spaces, the peaceful cloistered Garth and the College Chapel. Located on the 59-acre grounds of the Washington National Cathedral Close, the College affords Readers opportunities to attend daily worship services and other events of the Cathedral. The many cultural and visitor attractions of Washington, D.C., are also easily accessible, as well as the nearby health club, pool, and track.

Also, through the Cathedral College of Preacher’s associate membership in the Washington Theological Consortium, COP Readers now have the privilege of utilizing the library resources of area seminaries, among which include Wesley Seminary, Virginia Theological Seminary, Howard Divinity School, and Catholic University.

Readers are also welcome to combine their time as a Reader with attendance at one or more College conferences offered throughout the program year. This is especially attractive to those planning longer sabbatical periods.

The quiet monastic-like setting offers an ideal place to get away from the daily demands of the work environment. The cost for the Readers Program is $350.00 per week. Readers are accepted as space allows.
