Summit: About

About the Summit

The Christian-Muslim Summit calls together religious leaders from Christianity and Islam to promote understanding and reconciliation between the two faith traditions, and to encourage religious leaders to use their influence with government leaders, and the community at large, to promote—and positively impact—peace and reconciliation efforts worldwide. These initiatives must be undertaken to engage leaders across faiths and nations in the search for what Jesus called “the Peace of God that passes all understanding” and what the Qur’an teaches: “O ye who believe! Enter into Peace whole-heartedly” (Surah 2:208). The Summit will result in a jointly agreed upon Plan of Action to achieve specific steps in alignment with these goals before the four principals reconvene.

As the global community continues to divide along the lines of faith and culture, Washington National Cathedral feels increasingly called to play an important role in relations between Christians and Muslims around the world, and is uniquely positioned as a convening authority to facilitate such a dialogue.

The four principals are joined by delegations from their faith traditions, representing Shi’a, Sunni, Anglican/Episcopalian, and Roman Catholic leadership.

The Summit consists of private meetings with the four principals and invited participants from the faith-based, diplomatic, academic, non-profit, and political science communities.
