Why is Washington National Cathedral participating in this Summit?
Washington National Cathedral is committed to reconciliation and interfaith dialogue to create a more hopeful and just world amid the pressing moral and social issues of our day. As the global community continues to divide along the lines of faith and religion, the Cathedral feels increasingly called to play an important role in relations between Christians and Muslims around the world. The Cathedral is uniquely positioned as a convening authority to facilitate dialogue among the Abrahamic faiths to promote respect and understanding.
What are the specific goals of the summit?
The goals of the Summit are to promote understanding and reconciliation between Christianity and Islam and to discuss ways in which leaders from both traditions can proactively engage their government leaders, and the community at large, to become active partners in public diplomacy for peace and reconciliation.
The Summit will result in a jointly agreed upon Plan of Action to achieve specific initiatives in alignment with these goals.
How do I participate in the Summit’s Public Dialogue?
The Christian-Muslim Summit concludes with a public dialogue among the participants for invited guests on Wednesday, March 3, at 7 pm, in the Cathedral nave. Anyone may participate in the program by watching it online via a live Webcast from the Cathedral’s Web site. Attendance at the public dialogue is limited to invited guests.
