WASHINGTON, D.C. — Musical artist Beth Nielsen Chapman—whose songs have been recorded by legends like Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, Faith Hill and Trisha Yearwood—will sing two songs during a worship service on February 15 at Washington National Cathedral.

Cathedral Canon Carol L. Wade, precentor, commented on the singer’s participation, “This worship service focuses on the strength of God’s love to bring wholeness to a world in need. We are honored to feature Grammy nominated singer-songwriter Beth Nielsen Chapman, whose incandescent gift for music bears witness to that spirit of healing.”

Faith is central to Chapman’s life although it was tested after her husband’s death in 1994 leaving her a widow and single mother at 36. Six years later she was diagnosed with breast cancer. During a prayer service at Washington National Cathedral on the first anniversary of 9/11 in which she participated, Chapman was inspired by Archbishop Desmond Tutu message of “all belonging to the human family.” Her 2008 “Prism” recording reflects this inspiration by celebrating a wide range of musical religious traditions.

Beginning at 11:10 am on Sunday, February 15, Chapman will sing “There Will be a Better Day” as a prelude to the 11:15 service. After the homily, she’ll perform “There’s a Light.”

Chapman is also a presenter at the Cathedral’s Sacred Circles, A Celebration of Women’s Spirituality conference taking place February 13 and 14. For more information on Sacred Circles and its workshops, please visit www.nationalcathedral.org.
