Behind-the-Scenes Flower Preparation
Thursday, April 9 at 10:30-noon, 1-3 pm
Thousands of flowers stored in buckets grace St. Marys Chapel
during Holy Week at Washington National Cathedral. The chapel, located
off the main part of the church, serves as an expanded flower room as
the church prepares for its Easter celebration. Altar guild volunteers
will be busily working on grouping, transporting, and arranging flowers
to decorate the Cathedrals 83,000 square feet of interior space.
Linda Roeckelein, altar guild director and well-known floral designer,
will be on hand for comment.
Holy Thursday: Holy Eucharist with Foot Washing and Stripping of the Altar

During the service, Washington National Cathedral clergy will wash the feet of congregants, symbolizing Jesus washing the apostles feet. This ritual represents what Jesus has given followers in the Gospel, What I have done for you, so you are to do for others. Several foot washing stations will be located in front of the altar.
