In 2008 Muslim scholar and former Pakistani ambassador Akbar Amed, along with a team of student researchers from American University, canvassed more than 70 U.S. cities and 100 mosques interviewing thousands of Muslims and non-Muslims alike.
Journey into America: The Challenge of Islam, a film documenting the group’s main finding—U.S. Muslim and American identities are inseparable despite their complexity—is the result of their efforts. A book of the same name will be published by Brookings Press this year.
The film will be shown Sunday, October 25, at 5:30 pm in Perry Auditorium located on the 7th floor of Washington National Cathedral. Tickets are $10. and are available online, www.nationalcathedral.org/learn/lectures.shtml, or by calling (202) 537-2228.
