Back to Press Releases »
Washington, D.C.—White House Domestic Policy Advisor Melody Barnes is the Sunday Forum guest on November 8 at Washington National Cathedral.
Join Dean Sam Lloyd as he speaks with Ms. Barnes on the role faith plays in public service and in her own career as a lawyer focusing on civil rights, women’s health issues, religious liberties, and commercial law.
The Sunday Forum is a 50-minute conversation that examines the intersection of faith and public life, and includes questions from live and online audiences. It is held between morning services in the main part of the Cathedral, beginning at 10:10, on most Sundays.
Melody Barnes is President Obama’s domestic policy advisor and the director of the Domestic Policy Council, which coordinates the domestic policy-making process in the White House. Before joining the White House, Barnes served as the senior domestic policy advisor to President Obama’s campaign. Prior to joining the campaign, she was the executive vice president for policy at the Center for American Progress.
From 1995 to 2003, she served as chief counsel to Sen. Edward M. Kennedy on the Senate Judiciary Committee. In those capacities, and as a director of legislative affairs for the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and assistant counsel to the U.S. House of Representatives Judiciary Subcommittee on Civil and Constitutional Rights, she worked extensively on civil rights and voting rights, women’s health, religious liberties, and commercial law.
The Sunday Forum is free, open to the public and webcast live at www.nationalcathedral.org. Complimentary parking is offered in the underground parking garage, accessed from Wisconsin Avenue.
