Can Dance Build Community?

Back to Press Releases »

Washington, D.C.—Liz Lerman, founding artistic director of the Liz Lerman Dance Exchange, joins Dean Sam Lloyd on Sunday morning, November 22, to talk about ways dance and movement develop civic dialogue and underscore shared values.

During this Sunday Forum, Ms. Lerman and Dean Lloyd will explore the spiritual connection between the mind and body and whether simple movements lead to insight and self-understanding.

The Sunday Forum is a 50-minute conversation that examines the intersection of faith and public life, and includes questions from live and online audiences. It is held between morning services in the main part of the Cathedral, beginning at 10:10, on most Sundays.

Lerman’s transformative work has been commissioned by the Lincoln Center, the American Dance Festival, BalletMet, and the Kennedy Center. Among her many awards and recognitions is a 2002 MacArthur “Genius” Grant Fellowship.

The Sunday Forum is free, open to the public and webcast live at www.nationalcathedral.org. Complimentary parking is offered in the underground parking garage, accessed from Wisconsin Avenue.
