African-American Singing and Dance Groups Unite with the Godfather of Go-Go Chuck Brown

What: Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration Program, site of Dr. King’s last Sunday sermon

When: Monday, January 18, 2–4 pm, free, open to the public

Where: Washington National Cathedral, main part of the church

Who: D.C.’s own Chuck Brown, “the godfather of go-go” music, will lead the celebration as master of ceremony at Washington National Cathedral.

Joining Chuck Brown will be other performing artists including the African Heritage Dancers and Drummers, a D.C.-based youth group that recently performed at New York City’s Lincoln Center; the Heritage Signature Chorale, singers dedicated to preserving the Negro Spiritual; Urban H.I.P.-H.O.P Choir, youth singers targeting “Hope, Integrity, Power-Helping Our People;” and City Dance Early Arts at Trinidad Recreation Center, youth dancers.

Short interfaith reflections will be offered in several faith traditions by Buddhist, Jewish, and Christian participants during the program.
