Day worship service at Washington National Cathedral celebrated the life and work of the people who serve our city. As part of our ministry serving the people of Washington, during this service, as in years past, the Cathedral honored and presented monetary grants to community organizations that serve D.C. youth. Vincent Powell Harris, rector, St. Georges Episcopal Church, Washington, D.C., who delivered the sermon; the Rev. Sarabeth Goodwin, representing St. Stephens Emerging Leaders Program; Mr. Della M. Burke, representing Trinity Education Arts and Music Ministry. Bishop John T. Walker School for Boys, named in honor of the first African-American Episcopal Bishop of Washington, is the first and only tuition-free Episcopal School for boys in Washington, D.C. Life Pieces to Masterpieces is a non-profit, arts-based youth development organization serving African American boys and young men, ages 3 to 21, who live in low-income and public housing east of the Anacostia River in Washington, D.C. St. Georges Episcopal Free to Be Me Evening Summer Camp offers young, at-risk youth a fun and safe environment with a Christian atmosphere by providing activities of enrichment for one week. St. Stephens Emerging Leaders Program will be hosted this summer by St. Stephens and the Incarnation Episcopal Church in partnership with Escuela Bolivia, Inc., the grassroots organization which developed the program. The Emerging Leaders Program promotes and encourages high school students leadership potential in the growing Latino community. Trinity Education Arts and Music Ministry (TEAMM) is a ministry of Trinity Episcopal Church. TEAMM is a comprehensive program of education, arts, drama, music, dance, tutoring in math and literature for youth.
