As Canon Precentor of Washington National Cathedral, Canon Campbell has responsibility and oversight for all worship in the life of the Cathedral. Worshipers express appreciation for Canon Campbell’s accessible preaching. She has a clear style that speaks to the intersection of Scripture and daily life, is dynamic and energetic, challenging and gracious.

An ordained United Methodist clergywoman, Canon Campbell received her education at Duke University and at the Candler School of Theology at Emory University. Before coming to her current position, Canon Campbell served as a local church educator in Georgia and New Jersey, on the staff of the Southwest Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church, and as a congregational pastor in Texas and Maryland.

Her 36 years of ministry include work in ecumenical and interfaith settings; as an author and curriculum and program designer; as a supervisor and mentor for laity and clergy serving in a variety of ministry settings.

As adjunct faculty at the Center for Family Process in Bethesda, Maryland, Canon Campbell studies and teaches the family systems thinking of Murray Bowen and Edwin Friedman in a way that integrates the gifts of a powerful personal journey of prayer and spiritual formation into a way of thinking about the special challenges and the unique possibilities for leadership and for the being dimension of ministry.

Canon Campbell lives with her husband in Chevy Chase, Maryland.
