In July 2008 the Cathedrals dean, the Very Rev. Samuel T. Lloyd III, appointed Kathleen Cox Chief Operating Officer of the Washington National Cathedral. This is a new position created to provide central coordination and leadership of the Cathedral Staff. The purpose of this position is to ensure on the Deans behalf that the operations of the Cathedral are managed efficiently on a day-to-day basis. The Chief Operating Officer is also charged with providing direction and oversight in the planning and implementation of the Cathedrals strategic priorities and working to foster a collaborative and supportive work environment. The Chief Operating Officer supervises all Cathedral staff with the exception of the Vicar, Stephen Huber, who will oversee the life of the Cathedral congregation, the pastoral and priestly work of the clergy.
Ms. Cox and her family have been part of the Cathedral family for a long time, with four children having attended Beauvoir, St. Albans, and the National Cathedral School. Ms. Cox holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia, a law degree from the University of Chicago and a Masters in Public Policy from Georgetown University. She has a broad legal background and extensive experience in non-profit management, most recently serving as the President and CEO of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
