Every Christian Eucharistic meal follows the pattern Jesus instituted on this night when, sharing a Passover meal with his disciples, he broke bread and shared a cup. We join in the mystery of his promise that whenever we do likewise, we experience his abiding and redemptive presence among us.

Choral Evensong with Special Guests

The Cathedral Men and Boys Choir sang at Choral Evensong at the Cathedral on Thursday February 5th. Special guests joined us from the Orthodox Church in Ukraine and offered a prayer for those who have died in the Ukraine.

Christmas Pageant

Children of all ages came to the Cathedral to participate in this annual pageant celebrating the Nativity. Children dressed as shepherds, angels, and animals helped tell the story of the Messiah's birth.

Remembrance Day Service

Ben Bradlee Funeral Service

Washington National Cathedral hosted the funeral service for Benjamin Crowninshield Bradlee. The former editor of the Washington Post was an iconic figure in journalism over the last half century. The service was open to the public. The Very Rev. Gary Hall, dean of the Cathedral, preached.

National Acolyte Festival

Acolytes from across the United States filled the Cathedral's nave for a morning service of rededication and Holy Eucharist. Participants attended workshops in the afternoon. The Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori, presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church, preached and presided.

Blessing of the animals

Owners and their pets came to the Cathedral on Sunday October 5th for the blessing of the animals. Some of the pets walked while other traveled in strollers. In the above photo the dog seems unsure of the water involved in the blessing but held still through the process.
